Concerns have been raised about people, specifically children, gaining access around the pumping stations at Shannagh Grove in Mohill and Attirory in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Cllr Enda Stenson proposed a motion asking for proper fencing to be installed in these areas to enhance safety.

“It should be made secure and shouldn’t be open to people going in there, it’s not safe,” Cllr Stenson said.

The pumping stations are not under the remit of Leitrim County Council but are owned by Uisce Éireann. Cllr Stenson noted that he had been in contact with Uisce Éireann regarding the issue and they are looking into it.

Cllr McGowan and Cllr Farrell seconded the motion.

In response, the Head of Finance and Water Services stated, “This asset falls under the operation and control of Uisce Éireann. The fencing and maintenance of this asset is entirely a matter for Uisce Éireann.”
