Towns and villages across Leitrim are gearing up for an exciting St Patrick’s Day weekend, with parades and events to bring everyone together in celebration. With a wide range of festivities planned, no one will have to travel far to join in the fun.
Sunday, March 16
The first parade kicks off in Drumshanbo at 4pm. Eamon McGowan, Leitrim Volunteer of the Year, will be the grand marshal and DJ DL will take the High Street stage at 3pm to get the crowd in the festive spirit.
A Spinathon fundraiser will also take place on Main Street before the parade, raising funds for children traveling to Lourdes.
Also on Sunday, the Manorhamilton St Patrick’s Day parade starts at 5pm featuring live music and cash prizes for Best Float, Most Creative Entry, Best Youth/Community Entry and Best Window Display.
Monday, March 17
Aughavas - 12:30pm: Cash prizes for best float and vintage vehicle, plus live music, face painting, a magician and balloon modelling.
Carrick-on-Shannon - 1pm: Parade prizes and entertainment, with parade assembly starting at 12:30pm on Circular Road.
Fenagh - 2pm: The parade follows a Family Fun Day at 11am, and on Sunday, March 16 free historic village tours will run from at 12pm and 2pm.
Keshcarrigan - 2:30pm: The parade follows the theme ‘Ceis Míle Fáilte,’ which will also feature in the Gathering Festival in the village in May.
Leitrim Village - 3pm: Featuring parade prizes, music from Wallop the Spot, a magician, and face painting.
Mohill - 4pm: Grand marshal Lloyd Donnelly leads the parade, followed by light refreshments and children’s entertainment from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
Dromahair - 4pm: Hosted by Thomas and Siobhan, with a ‘famous cash ball prize race,’ music from the Claffy Pipe Band, special guests The Reel Girls, and a kids’ céilí at the Clubhouse.
Ballinamore - 4pm: A fun filled parade with a variety of floats, encouraging everyone to wear green and come out to support the town.
Newtowngore - 4:30pm: Prizes for the top three judged floats, plus lots of entertainment and a raffle with spot prizes.
There’s plenty to look forward to in Leitrim this St Patrick’s Day weekend.
