Planning permission has been granted for the development of apartments and an aparthotel in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Approval was granted on April 23 with 27 conditions for the renovation of Cannon House, located on Main Street in the town.

The development involves demolishing the previous extension and a stone outbuilding at the rear of Cannon House, along with a series of planned alterations.

These alterations include the change use of the existing first-floor office space to residential use, including internal modifications, as well as alterations to the carriageway to provide level access to the proposed extension - this includes changes to both rear and front elevations.

Significant further developments include the construction of a three-storey and four-storey extension to the rear of the site.

This extension will feature a café with ancillary rooms, two commercial units, and four residential apartments - comprising two two-bedroom apartments and two studio apartments.

Plans also include the development of an aparthotel with 17 studio apartments.

Additionally, a link corridor connecting to Cannon House is proposed, along with connections to all public services and other ancillary site works.

A number of conditions have been attached to the planning permission. These include that site development and construction works must take place between 8am and 7pm from Monday to Friday, and between 8am and 2pm on Saturdays.

No spoil, dirt, debris or other materials are to be deposited on the public road, footpath, or verge near the site.

Resilience measures must also be incorporated into the development to minimise the potential impact of flood damage.
