Nina Carberry, MEP for the Midlands Northwest and member of the European Parliament’s International Trade and Budget Committees, visited Leitrim this week to meet with companies and discuss the role of the EU in supporting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Carberry visited Carrick Business Campus where she highlighted the importance of EU programmes such as InvestEU, which provides loans and grants for growth and innovation, and the Single Market Programme, which helps SMEs open new trade routes into Europe.

During her visit, MEP Carberry met with Vincent Dwyer, Justin Fannon, and Noel Duignan of Carrick Campus, underlining the need for continued EU investment through the European Regional Development Fund as negotiations on the forthcoming EU budget gather pace.

“In Ireland, SMEs account for over 99 percent of all businesses,” MEP Carberry said.

“They are the backbone of our economy, particularly in rural areas. It is vital that local companies know about the full range of EU supports available to them.”

Carberry was joined by Frank Feighan, Fine Gael TD for Sligo-Leitrim, and local Fine Gael Councillor Maeve Reynolds.

“Carrick Business Campus is a fantastic facility. With modern infrastructure, private units, and shared workspaces, it offers everything a business needs to thrive.

“That’s why I am fighting to ensure that regional funding is protected and strengthened in the next EU Budget,” Carberry concluded.
