Retrofitting homes is a key strand in the government's strategy to meet climate policy targets
Leitrim Climate Action Week is commencing on October 13 and Sligo Leitrim Energy Agency will be on hand to assist Leitrim County Council and will be making presentations on Tuesday, October 14 and Thursday, October 16.
The Sligo Leitrim Energy Agency, or SLEA is a small, local team who help people make their homes warmer, cheaper to heat, and better for the planet.
A not-for-profit agency, backed by the EU, Sligo and Leitrim County councils and the ATU Sligo, the Sligo Leitrim Energy Agency help people upgrade their homes and buildings to use less energy and feel more comfortable.
That might mean insulation, new heating systems, or solar panels. We guide people through grants and the retrofit process from start to finish.
We work on two main schemes - Community Energy Grant (CEG): For homes, businesses and community buildings – grants range from €15–30K approx. Warmer Homes Scheme: Free energy upgrades for eligible homeowners on certain social welfare
payments.
It helps people save money on energy bills and make their homes warmer, healthier, and greener as well as supports our communities in fighting climate change — starting with their own homes. We work across Sligo and Leitrim, helping people in towns, villages, and rural areas and support homeowners, SMEs, charities, and local groups who want to improve their buildings.
The company offer a one-stop-shop service – from advice to applications to contractor coordination and take care of the technical side and help you make the best decision for your home and budget. We also hold events and provide hands-on learning opportunities for homeowners.
Launched in April 2023, the company has completed 18 homes and 7 non-domestic projects under CEG (by July 2025) and 44 homes under the Warmer Homes Scheme.
Our current CEG project (10 homes) is already full and a new application round for another 10 homes opens in October 2025.
