“It continues to be a priority for government to ensure our roads both local and national are up to a high standard, this funding will assist in that ambition. I am mindful of the level of rainfall and storm we are experiencing which puts further pressure on our resources and that of the local authority. I believe good roads assist in ensuring inward investment and tourism growth which is vital for Leitrim and the Northwest, "concluded Minister Feighan.
Meanwhile, Cllr Enda McGloin welcomed the announcement of the allocation of grants under the Safety Improvement Works Scheme as detailed under the 2026 roads grant scheme.

Specifically, two local projects have been funded on the programme that Cllr Mc Gloin had raised in recent motions to the Ballinamore MD with €30,000 been allocated for the Creenagh TD along the Ballinamore Road out of Drumshanbo; to counter excess speed the department has funded warning and informing road signage to alert motorists through dangerous bends and a built up urbanisation.
A further €30,000 will go towards improvement works at Charlton’s Crossroads on the Kilclare Road, Drumshanbo, this funding will help improve visibility and may result in a change the priority of the junction around what traffic has the ‘right of way’.
Overall, Cllr McGloin has welcomed the allocation of €3,103,219 in funding for Leitrim announced by the Minister for Transport
