Leitrim school set for major extension with brand new classrooms and facilities

A major extension has been granted for Leitrim’s main town secondary school, with several significant new features.

The extension has been approved for Carrick-on-Shannon Community School under the additional accommodation scheme, which ensures that classroom space is available to cater for the number of students in the school.

The extension will consist of eight new general classrooms and the refurbishment of the music room to provide a general classroom, two SET rooms, two science labs, one science preparation area, one art room and one home economics room.

The Minister for Education, Hildegarde Naughton TD, announced on Thursday, March 5 that the major extension had been sanctioned.

Local Fine Gael TD and Minister of State, Frank Feighan, has welcomed the announcement.

“This is a major announcement for Carrick Community School which will deal with the large numbers of students who are there currently and the projected numbers over the coming years,” said Minister Feighan.

“I do hope planning can be advanced to get this project up and running as soon as possible,” he added.

“I wish to congratulate the Board of Management and in particular the principal for their collective work in getting the application prepared and passed by officials and also to acknowledge the Minister for continuing to take on board my representations for this school and other important developments including the provision of a new Scoil Mhuire, primary school for the town which I believe is making progress,” concluded Minister Feighan.
