RIP: Tributes paid in Leitrim to ‘a lovely lady who will be greatly missed’

Condolences and fond memories are being shared following the death of Joan McKeon (née Canning) of Dristernaun, Drumshanbo, who passed away on Saturday, March 7 in the loving care of the staff at Lough Erril Nursing Home.

RIP: Tributes paid in Leitrim to ‘a lovely lady who will be greatly missed’

Tributes are being paid following the death of a Leitrim woman remembered as ‘pleasant, cheerful and welcoming.’

Joan McKeon (née Canning) of Dristernaun, Drumshanbo passed away on Saturday, March 7 in the loving care of all the staff of Lough Erril Nursing Home, Mohill.

She is predeceased by her husband Shane, brothers Noel, Brendan and John, and sisters Sheila, Bridie and Patsy.

Joan was the beloved mother of John, Charlotte and Farrell, mother-in-law to Maureen and Mary, and adored grandmother of Claire, Shane, Conor, Matthew, Myles, Maria, Alana and Sean. Joan will be sadly missed by her brother Mel, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Many condolences have been shared on RIP.ie remembering Joan. “We have lovely memories of meeting Joan during our trips to Drumshanbo. She was always pleasant, cheerful and welcoming,” one message read.

“My dear friend of many years, I am privileged to have known you and as a friend, the kindest, funniest, and smartest girl I've known,” another said.

“Joan was a gracious and friendly woman, always a pleasure to meet and may she rest in peace and be reunited with Shane, Patsy and other family members and friends,” another condolence said.

Requiem Mass for Joan took place on Monday, March 9, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

“Joan was a lovely friendly lady who always loved to have a chat, she always had a great smile,” another message on RIP.ie said.

“Remembering a lovely, friendly and sincere lady who was a familiar figure over the years on the Ballinamore road,” another stated.

“Joan was such a lovely lady who will be greatly missed,” said another.
