Leitrim Cares is gearing up for its annual Spinathon this Friday, December 5. They are once again supporting the Capuchin Day Centre.

The Capuchin Day Centre provides food and meal services, medical and hygiene services, and family support services for the homeless. They are located on Bow Street in Dublin, serving approximately 1,000 people daily.

This year’s Leitrim Cares Spinathon will take place in the main car park and Gala in Drumshanbo, and also at McCormack’s in Leitrim Village, starting at 9am.

Throughout the day, various volunteers from the community will take part in continuous cycling in an effort to raise funds and awareness.

In a video on Facebook, Mary Healy of Leitrim Cares said, “At this time of year coming up to Christmas, we always collect for the homeless and the Capuchin Centre. This year is no different,” adding that there are over 16,000 people homeless in Ireland, which is a record high, and over 5,000 of that figure are children.

“We really appreciate your generosity and we couldn’t do this without you. We thank you on behalf of the homeless, the Capuchin Centre and myself and the team, we really thank you,” added Mary.

“Remember on Christmas day the difference that it will make for those children and homeless people. As they say, if we can’t feed one hundred, we’ll try and feed one,” she said.

Donations can be made on the day in Drumshanbo or Leitrim Village, with all funds going directly to the charity, or by directly donating to the Capuchin Day Centre through their website.
