Drumshanbo is the place to be on St Patrick’s Day

Drumshanbo is the place to be on St Patrick’s Day

Drumshanbo is putting the final touches to its 2022 St Patrick’s Day Parade. This is a local community effort put together by volunteers so please support.
The event will start at 4pm on Thursday, March 17th on the Carrick Road, at the junction to the Corryard Wood estate.
It will be led by our own local St Patrick, the Kiltubrid Pipe Band and our An Tostál Colleen, Rachel McDonagh. Those participating in the parade are asked to gather at the entrance to Corryard Wood at 3.00pm as this will be the starting point.
All businesses, surrounding schools who wish to advertise their enrolments for the coming year and community/supporting groups in the town and surrounding areas are asked to enter a float. Floats are also welcome from other parades.
This is a great opportunity to show case your business, craft, group or organisation. There is no entry fee and you could win a prize for the best float.

The St Patrick’s Day festivities have proven a popular draw for crowds to Drumshanbo in pre Covid years and this year’s parade promises to be better than ever with music, dancers and our own local Kiltubrid Pipe Band.
This year the parafde will be joined by John Lynch, Ocean FM presenter, who will be our MC for the day, music will be provided before and after the parade on the street by DJ Declan Lynch. On our viewing stand we will joined by local councillors, politicians, church representatives and local dignitaries.

Further events will take place on the day with all local pubs providing entertainment after the parade. In Monica’s Pub after the parade Lough Allen Ceoltóirí will perform and again on Sunday night, 20th March Eugene Cunningham, from 8-10pm, will provide entertainment. In Berry’s Tavern after the parade music by The Ferryman and then at 9pm a Comhlatas Session, on Saturday night the 19th music by Andy Murphy.
In the Millrace after the parade the Lone Ranger, Friday night the 18th The Ferryman and on Sunday 20t. from 6-8pm The Hot Pokers.
In Conways after the parade the very popular DJ Declan Lynch, on Saturday night 19th live music with John O’Dowd, and earlier on the big screen Ireland v Scotland.
These are all free events and should be supported.
Without the support of the community and businesses the parade would not be able to continue to be as successful so please show your support.

Why not consider putting out flags if you live in and around the town or, if you are a local business, why not decorate your windows for the occasion? It would be of great assistance to the organisers if people entering the parade had a pre-written card detailing what they are about which can be read out at the viewing stand.
We would like to thank our sponsors who have already donated generously to this year’s parade Joe and Wayne Gunning, Monica and Padraig McGourty, Nessa Campbell Berry’s Tavern, Cara Pharmacy, SKC John Moran, Moran’s Bicycle Shop, Andrea and Patrick McManus High Street, Niall Scollan Car Sales, Cllr Gerry Dolan, Detta McNiffe, McNiffe’s Boxty and Gibbons Centra. Other businesses who would like to make a donation towards the parade costs, will be thanked after the event in the Drumshanbo notes.

Anyone interested in joining in the Drumshanbo St Patrick’s Day Parade should contact parade organiser, PJ O’Donnell on 086 6043902 or Serena McCarthy 087 2367592.
