Leitrim's Paul Keaney hit seven points for the University of Limerick in their Sigerson Cup Quarter-Final victory over last year's champions University on Tuesday evening in Galway but his night ended on a sour note when the St Mary's Kiltoghert player was sent off.

Keaney, who kicked two points off the bench for Leitrim in Sunday's Allianz NFL Division 4 victory over Waterford on Sunday, scored six points from placed balls and another from play as the Limerick college prevailed over their Galway rivals 1-15 to 2-10 after extra-time.

For UL, the victory was revenge for their Sigerson Cup Final loss at the hands of their Galway opponents last year and the Limerick side did it the hard way, recovering from a 2-3 to 0-6 deficit to lead going into added time before Galway captain Sean Kelly, introduced off the bench, scored the point that sent the game to extra-time.

Keaney hit seven points, including the levelling free that tied the scores after 48 minutes but his evening ended on a sour note when he was dismissed in the final minute of normal time.

Keaney's Leitrim teammate Donal Casey missed out on the game after suffering an injury in Leitrim's win over Waterford.
