Leitrim's Leah Fox chats after the win over Longford Picture: Willie Donnellan
Most footballers feel the strain of too many games but right now, Leah Fox is enjoying her football with Leitrim and DCU as she combines County and College, describing herself as “happy out” with how football is going at the moment, writes John Connolly.
The Glencar Manorhamilton clubwoman bagged 2-3 against Longford as she reflected that the halftime team talk focused Leitrim’s minds: “I think parts of the first half was quite good but there were a few things we needed to tidy up at halftime, we did that. We really started pressing their kickout, took our goals in the second half thinking it worked for us in the first half, banged in a few goals but happy out.”
The League Semi-Final against Limerick on March 24, but the next big game for Leah is on Friday when she and Leitrim teammate Sarah Reynolds travel to MTU Cork as DCU take on TU Dublin in the O’Connor Cup Semi-Finals: “We’re going down to Cork next weekend with DCU, myself and Sarah Reynolds, can’t wait, it is really enjoyable.
“It is a great time of year between college and county football, getting towards the business end now with the O’Connor Cup Final next weekend and the League Final two weeks later so it is exciting.”

Longford were much tougher opposition than the scoreline suggests says Leah: “Definitely it as, Longford are a good team, they were still in it but I think the most pleasing thing for us is that we already knew we were in the semi-final, we already knew we were guaranteed second but to put in a performance like that, you’d be happy enough.”
After seven games, Leitrim are now where they want to be but Leah is certainly not proclaiming job done yet! “I don’t know if it is job done, the semi-final is going to be the big one but it is great there is two teams going up this year because other years you had teams in every division that can stay up by winning or drawing a game and you can win seven and you’re still not guaranteed to get up.
“It is great to give us an extra chance to get up if you win the semi-final but the semi-final will be very tough, there is not a lot between any of these teams in Division 4 so we need to put our heads down now and focus on that.
“I think there’d be nothing worse going into a semi-final after losing today or not performing so this will give us great confidence that we can do it when the stakes are not as high.”
