O'Flynn marches into Connacht Handball Final

Anthony O'Flynn and Ed Lee donned their Leitrim jerseys for their respective handball singles matches at the weekend with Ed Lee out first against Mayo's Michael Heraty in the Ruby Masters.

The first match was tit for tat and the two well-known handballers gave a fantastic display, but it was Heraty who took the first game with the smallest of margins 21-20. In the second game, Ed used all his guile and a masterful serve to come roaring back into the match, taking the second game 6-21.

A tiebreaker to 11 came quickly but Michael Heraty had clearly saved his energy for the final game and closed the game out 11-6.

In Collooney, Anthony O'Flynn played Sligo’s Michael Bruen. Michael has a number of Connacht titles while Anthony's recent run to the All-Ireland Silver Masters B final gave him confidence.

That confidence was very much on display with Anthony taking the first game 21-3. Michael's preparation had been hampered by injury, but he came out fighting in the second game with some excellent handball; however O'Flynn was just too strong for him this year, taking the second game 21-7.

Anthony now proceeds to the Connacht Final against Sligo’s Josian Oskoz.

Best of luck to Leo Logan who plays this Wednesday at 7pm in Drumkeeran in the over 35's against Chris Gavaghan of Mayo.
