Champions Mohill opened the defence of their Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC title with a comprehensive win over St Patrick's Dromahair and their reward is a second round clash next weekend with neighbours Gortletteragh as the club championship got into full swing this weekend.
The draw for the second round was made on Saturday evening after the first round had been completed and will see Mohill take on Gortletteragh but the big game will be the clash of neighbours Ballinamore Sean O'Heslins and Fenagh St Caillins, the 2021 champions fresh from a exhilarating 2-17 to 3-11 victory over Leitrim Gaels on Saturday that saw them surrender a six point lead before overcoming a six point deficit to emerge victorious.
St Mary's Kiltoghert, who accounted for Fenagh on Friday evening, will host Aughawillan who had a 0-14 to 0-13 victory over Annaduff, also on Friday. Annaduff will host St Patrick's Dromahair in the second round while Glencar Manorhamilton, who were leading by five points with five minutes to go against Gortletteragh who rallied to secure a draw, will entertain Leitrim Gaels.
The full second round draw is as follows: (Venues and dates to be confirmed)
Three games took place in the Smith Monumentals IFC on Saturday with two relatively big shocks - 2023 finalists Melvin Gaels were beaten by Division 3 winners Aughavas 0-11 to 0-9 in Aughavas while last year's semi-finalists Allen Gaels were held to a 1-9 to 0-12 draw by the second string of St Mary's Kiltoghert in Pairc Naomh Mhuire. Kiltubrid scored a big 2-10 to 0-7 victory over Drumreilly in Carrickmakeegan.
