“We are not out of it yet” says Ballinamore captain Wayne McKeon as Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC Final goes to replay

Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC Final: Sean O'Heslins captain felt game management let his team down but team will learn from the experience

“We are not out of it yet” says Ballinamore captain Wayne McKeon as senior final goes to replay

Wayne McKeon will lead his team back into battle again next Saturday after a nail biting finish in Pairc Sheain Ui Eslin which saw his Ballinamore team level with rivals Mohill at the final whistle.

“I suppose Maybe we were lucky to get the draw, but I thought it was in our control there in the end and maybe we took the wrong option taking the ball forward, instead of game management, holding the ball, but look we will fight another day and go again here next Saturday,” said McKeon after the game.

The Ballinamore men got some breathing space early in the game when a long ball in from McKeon bounced over the head of Mohill's keeper and into the back of the net.

“It was a great start, it settled us into the game which is what we wanted so look we are fairly happy, a little bit disappointed that we didn’t finish the job but its part and parcel when you are playing Mohill, quality side that they are”

Ballinamore headed into this final with a lot of confidence, according to McKeon, “We had a great run up to the final, tight games Fenagh, Carraick, and Mohill here again,” he says.

He feels their game management let them down in key moments today, which is something they will learn from before the rematch next weekend. “We knew they were going to come back at us, it only was how we were going to manage it and we managed it fairly well to a degree probably took the wrong options at the wrong times maybe the odd time.”

“But like I said, we are not out of it yet, we will get back inside here and get together again, going train on Tuesday night and go again next Saturday.”
