Newly crowned ACL Division 1 Champions St Mary's Kiltoghert were brought back down to earth with a bang as an injury time Jack Kelly penalty saw Glencar Manorhamilton inflict a dramatic 1-16 to 0-17 victory in the Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC first round.
With Fenagh St Caillins and Leitrim Gaels scoring comfortable wins over Aughawillan and Melvin Gaels respectively, the big drama came in Boggaun as Kelly's injury time strike from the spot saw the north Leitrim men, relegated from Division 1, shock the new League champions.
The home side got off to the better start, leading 0-6 to 0-3 but St Mary's fought back to lead 0-10 to 0-9 at the break. With Barry McNulty back in the Manor colours, the County star contributed five points from play but it was Jack Kelly who led the Manor effort as he scored consistently throughout the contest, capping it off with a winner in added time.
Second half goals from Liam Chandler, Jack Flynn and Shane Rynn saw Leitrim Gaels cruise to a 3-22 to 3-9 win over Melvin Gaels in Kinlough on Saturday. The Gaels controlled much of the first half with patient play with Garvan & Ryan Jones, Shaun & Liam Chandler, Stephen Goldrick and Aidan Flynn all on the scoresheet.
A penalty goal from Shane McGloin on 11 minutes kept the home side in touch while a brilliantly finished Jack Ronayne goal just before halftime kept Melvin Gaels in touch, 0-16 to 2-5. However, once Leitrim Gaels found the net with a thunderbolt from Liam Chandler, that was it as the visitors cruised to a 13 point victory.
Two goals in the opening quarter put Fenagh St Caillins well on the road to a comprehensive 2-21 to 1-11 victory at home against Aughawillan. Fenagh led by 13 points nearing the halftime break before a late surge from the visitors left the scoreline at 2-10 to 0-6 at the break.
The second half was tit for tat before Morgan Quinn converted a penalty to leave the scores 2-15 to 1-11 with ten minutes left in the half but the ACL Division 1 finalists reeled off six unanswered points in the closing stages to seal a comfortable win.
In the Smith Monumentals IFC, newly crowned ACL Division 2 winners Allen Gaels cruised to a high scoring 4-15 to 2-13 victory over Gortletteragh while Annaduff came away from their visit to Carrigallen with a 2-16 to 1-13 victory over the home side.
