Leitrim GAA
Leitrim GAA have made a voluntary disclosure to the Revenue Commissioners in respect of income tax due on payment for services, Treasurer Martin McCartin informed delegates at the Leitrim GAA County Board Convention in The Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon.
Delivering his report to Wednesday night’s Convention, Mr McCartin informed the meeting that the County Board had made a disclosure totalling €151,667 for the years 2021 to 2025 and the Board were awaiting a reply from the Revenue Commissioners to see if the settlement offer would be accepted.
Mr McCartin said he could not make any public comment on the voluntary disclosure as the process with the Revenue Commissioners is not finalised and is still ongoing, in common with nearly all counties who have announced they have made voluntary disclosures over the past few weeks.
In the accounts, it is revealed that the sum of €11,742 was payable for income tax for the year ended September 2025 with the sum of €139,925 payable as income tax for the year ended September 2024 and earlier years.
Leitrim was included in a four county pilot programme from Croke Park to carry out an internal self-assessment of potential tax liabilities which was then rolled out to all counties. It is expected that, with new accounting procedures in place for the coming years, that the liability issue for counties will be eliminated in 2026.

The Observer understands that the voluntary disclosures for counties on a national level relate almost entirely to payments for managers and backroom staff and not for the travelling expenses of players or referees or employees of various boards although a number of counties have issues relating to the employment of coaches for Sumner Cul Camps programme.
With the settlement offer for five years carried in the accounts ending on September 30, 2025, it means that Leitrim GAA have returned a deficit of €70,693 for the past accounting year compared with a surplus of €61,406 for the 2024 accounting year.
The County Board shows a total income of €1,630,231 and a total expenditure of €1,700,924 after Depreciation & Amortisation. Without Depreciation & Amortisation, expenditure came to €1,654,485, an increase on the €1,475,777 from 2024, most of which is attributable to the sum set aside for the voluntary disclosure to the Revenue Commissioners.
In terms of income, the County Board recorded an increase of over €46,000 from €1,583,951 from 2024 to €1,630,231 in 2025, although this figure was hit by the fact that the Club Championship Semi-Finals were held outside the accounting period in 2025 due to the later start of the club championships with the accounts closing on September 30.
Gate receipts for the year came to €155,143, down from €165,845 the previous year with receipts for Senior Club Football bringing in €103,827, a decrease of almost €30,000 on 2024.
Commercial income, from sponsors and allowances from gear manufacturers, also showed a drop, from €195,789 in 2024 to €172,220 with the Gallagher Group in Kent providing sponsorship of €30,000 a year. In terms of allowance and royalties, Leitrim GAA had a smaller allowance of €35,000 under Gaelic Armour compared to €40,000 for McKeever Sports but did better overall thanks to higher royalties of €40,000 compared to €31,365 in 2024.
Leitrim also reported a higher share from the Allianz National Leagues with Croke Park changing their funding formula, the County bringing in €89,734 for the last year compared to €57,719, an increase of almost €32,000.
In terms of fundraising, Leitrim’s total came to €346,707 which compared favourably to the €364,680 considering the County did not hold the 50 Miles in January Challenge in 2025. In 2024, the Challenge brought in €129,355 but its replacement, the Leitrim GAA LGFA Quid Game, brought in €161,085, of which €50,000 was paid out to the Leitrim LGFA.
The Leitrim GAA Patron’s Fund brought in €88,370, down from €121,523 the previous year while the Leitrim Supporters Club draw brought in €94,650, an increase of almost €3,000 on the previous year.

In terms of expenditure, the big outlay was again on the costs associated with Leitrim’s Inter county teams, with a total of €859,446 being spent, compared to €804,219 in 2024.
Most of that increase was accounted for by Players Travelling expenses, which rose from €154,861 to €189,224 while Teams meals and Catering, Kitvan, Hospital / doctor / specialist bills and equipment all saw an increase in outlay. However, Team managers and selectors expenses dropped to €141,571 from €151,369 the previous year.
Under new regulations from Croke Park, expenditure on all county teams must be itemised separately with expenditure on the County Senior Football team coming to €463,511, the County Hurling Senior team at €196,298 and €199,637 for the County U20, U17 and Development squad programmes.
