The new year has got off to a positive start for the community in Tullaghan, Co Leitrim with a more dependable water supply secured.
Uisce Éireann crews replaced old pipework in Redbrae which was susceptible to sporadic bursts, and locals can now have more confidence in their water supply.
Uisce Éireann’s Networks Regional Lead Declan Cawley is proud to be announcing the completion of the project which began in October.
“The old pipework along the L6059 and the crossing with the N15 was an issue. Replacing that 700 metres of water main has a range of benefits for the local community. Firstly, it has put an end to bursts and outages along that section, but it has also reduced the amount of treated drinking water lost into the ground.”
Declan thanked the local community for their co-operation during the works.
“Residents in the Redbrae area can have confidence in their water supply like never before. We thank them for their patience and cooperation while our teams were on the ground. Together with Leitrim County Council, we look forward to continuing to improve the water supply across the county.”
The Redbrae works were carried out as part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme which has seen Uisce Éireann reduce leaks nationally from 46% in 2018 to 38% last year and this work in Redbrae will help achieve a national leakage rate of 25% by the end of 2030.
Since 2018, Uisce Éireann has invested more than €500 million to upgrade the underground water network across the country through the delivery of the National Leakage Reduction Programme.
It is investing a further €250 million every year up to the end of 2030 - fixing leaks and replacing pipes to provide a more reliable water supply. For more information on the Leakage Reduction Programme, please visit www.water.ie/ reducingleaks
