Salmonella found in eight poultry flocks

The Department of Agriculture is investigating a number of salmonella infections on poultry farms around the country.

It is understood that up to eight farms are affected and all have been restricted. All flocks have been restricted culling of some of the affected poultry, mainly chicken, has already begun.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) said it is working closely with the Food Safety Authority and the National Reference Laboratory for Salmonella in order to determine the cause of the outbreak, in a number of different areas across Ireland at the same time.
