The River Bonet at Dromahair
Frank Feighan TD has been informed by the Minister for State with responsibility for the OPW, Patrick O’Donovan TD that €588,420 has been allocated from his department for flood mitigation works along the River Bonet at Dromahair.
The announcement follows an application to the OPW by Leitrim County Council for funding under the Minor Flood Mitigation and Coastal Protection Scheme.
Leitrim County Council where earlier last year were awarded funding for a feasibility study and it was based on that study that the local authority based their application for funding to carry out flood mitigation
works.
Minister Feighan warmly welcomed the news stating, “Flooding in and around the River Bonet at Dromahair has been a constant thorn in the side of landowners for many years, I am hopeful that this significant investment of almost €600,000 will provide a resolution for many.
“I wish to acknowledge the input of local Cllr Frank Dolan who was in touch with me on several occasions pressing for the necessary funding and of course the local IFA committee in Dromahair led by Kevin Comiskey who met with Minister O’Donovan when he was in Dromahair Village to press him on the need for a resolution of the constant flooding of the
Bonet basin area.
“In conclusion, I wish to thank Minister O’Donovan and the staff of the OPW and Leitrim County Council who have worked to get us this far, we look forward now to works beginning soon and hopefully by next winter we will see the fruits of the mitigation works”, concluded Deputy Feighan.
