A ‘Day of Action’ is currently underway in Counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, as An Garda Síochána urges all road users to ‘STAY SAFE’ this St Brigid’s Bank Holiday Weekend.
Today’s operation will consist of high visibility rolling checkpoints and patrols across road corridors in Counties Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal from 9am to 9pm, led by Roads Policing Units based at Carrick-on-Shannon, Sligo, Donegal Town, Letterkenny and Buncrana Garda Stations.
In the course of the operation strategically placed high-visibility MIT checkpoints will also be conducted simultaneously on key arterial routes including, the N4, N15, N16 and N13.
The operation will focus on the 4 key lifesaver offences of -
• Driving under the influence
• Speed
• Non wearing of Seat Belts
• Mobile Phone use
The overall objective of today’s operation is to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury collisions and to keep people safe as they take to the roads for the Bank Holiday weekend.
