Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team (SLMRT) were joined by Joe Burke, Pieta Fundraising Officer, for the presentation of a cheque for €5,027.50 at the team base.
In total, over €10,000 was raised for SLMRT and Pieta. The event which took place on 20th December and involved Richard Kilfeather, Dave Foley and Mick Mercer completing over 18 laps of the 6 km trail around Knocknarea.
"This has never been attempted before and was a serious undertaking by the three men," stated Henry Doherty, PRO for Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team.
"The aim was to raise €3,000," continued Mr. Doherty, "and to raise over €10,000 we are blown away by the generosity of the public.
"As with an event of this nature a lot of work was put in behind the scenes before and during the challenge by team members of SLMRT to whom we extend our sincere gratitude.
"What was extra special about this event was being partnered with Pieta whose work in providing free counselling to those with suicidal ideation, those engaging in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide is second to none," he added.
The funds raised will enable Pieta to continue with their life saving services, and assist SLMRT in aiding those in distress in upland regions of Sligo/Leitrim.
