Cash for Clobber
A big thank you to everyone for their involvement in and contribution to our ASD class "Cash for Clobber" fundraiser. Between staff and 5th year parents we managed to amass 1.2 tonnes of "Clobber" earning us €480! This is a lovely achievement for the senior ASD class and affirms the work they did with their teachers on the project.

The fundraiser was a big team effort with lots of people involved - Ms McHugh, who suggested the idea way back last May, Ms Reilly and Ms McNamee Patel who, together with the wider ASD teaching and SNA team organised and led the whole thing, Ms Kellegher for the goodies, Ms Maxwell, who brought a sustainability focus to it and Mr Duffy, who involved the following LCVP students - Zoe Heslin, Pola Pajak, Saoirse Hayden and Frida Gurn - as part of their action project.

Thanks to Ms Duffy and Ms Dolan for creating awareness and sending reminders via school text and social media, to Kevin, Brian and David for setting up the perfect drop off and collection point, to the wider MCC staff without whose bags of clobber, there would be no fundraiser at all!

Thank you especially to Ms Murphy, who works tirelessly and constantly behind the scenes in our ASD department, without whom none of this would be possible.
The money raised will be used to subsidise trips and other benefits for both ASD classes.
Thank you to Ms Kellegher, Josh, Robin and Keanu from our Senior ASD class for the lovely cake and card delivered to the staff room on Thursday as a thank you for supporting their fundraiser.

Fairtrade Fortnight
Fair Trade Fortnight 2023 was in full swing last week and was spreading a simple message: Be Fair-Do Sustainable.
Last Tuesday, 7th of March, the Fair Trade Parade took place in Carrick on Shannon starting at 11.00 am and some of our TY and Second year students attended and took part in the event with Ms McNamee Patel, Ms Garvey and Ms McHugh.
Well done to Keany McGee, from our Senior ASD class, who read out a poem for the occasion, he did a fantastic job on it.
We are a Fair Trade school and have supported and taken part in this annual parade for a number of years now. It is wonderful to be back in person after remote participation during the Covid Years.

Seachtain na Gaeilge
This week marked Seachtain na Gaeilge and our Irish Department organised all sort of fun activities to mark the occasion. Ms Canning did a research project on their own area with her First Years and had them present their information on an array of colourful posters as Gaeilge.
Students also enjoyed treats at Club Gaelach, where they meet every week to practise their spoken Irish. Ms Reidy's First Years also enjoyed a "Tóraíocht Taisce" (Treasure Hunt) around the school, looking for clues in order to win prizes.
The students really enjoyed marking the occasion this year. Well done to our Irish department, always coming up with innovative ways of promoting the language in our school.

Careers Talk
Our 6th years had an engaging presentation from UCD last week. Lots of insight into courses, accommodation, scholarships, sports facilities and the campus itself. Thanks to Ms Moran for organising this talk.

First Year Boys Football
Our First Year Boys had a football game in Sligo last Monday with Mr Sheridan. The final score was Summerhill College 5-18, Mohill 6-8. They went into an early lead which we were never able to fully recover from.
We were 7 down at half time and lost by 7 in the end. Game was at Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence. We have still home games against Coola and Ballinamore to play. Hard luck to Mr Sheridan and the boys.
