A road safety ‘Day of Action’ is taking place in the North Western Region today, Saturday 18th March 2023.
Gardaí in the Sligo/ Leitrim Division and Donegal Division are urging all road users to slow down and stay safe this St. Patrick’s Weekend.
Today’s operation consists of high-visibility checkpoints and patrols along the main arterial routes through counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, led by Roads Policing Units based at Carrick-on-Shannon, Sligo, Donegal Town, Letterkenny and Buncrana Garda Stations.
In the course of the operation strategically placed high-visibility MIT checkpoints will also be conducted simultaneously on key arterial routes including the N4, N15, N16 and N13.
The operation will focus on the four key lifesaver offences of:
• Driving under the influence
• Speed
• Non wearing of Seat Belts
• Mobile Phone use
Today’s ‘Day of Action’ is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, increase compliance with speed limits, and deter driving at excessive and inappropriate speed
The overall objective is to reduce the number of speed related collisions, reduce injuries on Irish roads, save lives and keep people safe this Bank Holiday weekend.
