The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon continues its outdoor programme of events, ‘Summer at The Dock’ on Friday, July 28 at 8pm.
American poet Erin Fornoff will take over the marquee behind The Dock with her specially curated line-up of writers and storytellers. She will bring with her Derry-based performer and writer Abby Oliveira and curator, producer, writer, and educator, Dani Gill. This event will be supported by a performance from musician Dotts O’Connor (Come On Live Long, Dirty Dreamer). Dotts is returning to The Dock after a popular series of performances with his band, Dirty Dreamer.
Erin Fornoff is an American-born, new Irish citizen from the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. Called a ‘story-telling poet’ and ‘as close to music as poetry gets’, she presents poetry that finds peace in the natural world, links American and Irish landscapes, and asks what it truly means to be ‘at home’. She has featured on BBC3 The Verb, at Hozier and James Taylor concerts, and her poems have been included in Best New English and Irish Poets 2016.
Abby Oliveira is a Derry-based poet whose work teeters between borders and across disciples. Her work represents the reality of growing up and living in uncertain times, between nations, and in a world seemingly on the verge of collapse. Recently, her poem River Stars from a Grotto has been adapted into a film format by the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation in partnership with Belfast Book Festival.
Dani Gill is a curator, producer, writer, and educator, based in the west of Ireland. Her poetry is inspired by her background in youth work and community engagement. Her most recent poetry collection, Lessons in Kindness, has been hailed as ‘a meditative collection on the importance of the people who make us, and the kindness they leave behind’ and explores identity, sexuality, strength, and vulnerability.

On Saturday, July 29, there will be an outdoor screening of the 1975 classic ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ starring Al Pacino and John Cazale.
On a hot Brooklyn afternoon, two optimistic nobodies set out to rob a bank. Sonny is the mastermind, Sal is the follower, and disaster is the result. Because the cops, crowds, TV cameras, and even the pizza man have arrived. Pacino and director Sidney Lumet (collaborators on Serpico) reteam for this boisterous comedy thriller that earned six Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture) and won an Oscar for Frank Pierson’s streetwise screenplay.
Enjoy this evening of summer entertainment for only €8 with a €6 concessionary price for students, unwaged persons, and over 65’s.
