Public warned about algal bloom/scum in lakes
Leitrim County Council has warned that at this time of year an algal bloom/scum may appear on, or close to the shoreline of local lakes and that this bloom could be toxic.
The council have warned people that when algal bloom/scum is present not to swim in waters or allow animals to drink lake water.
The warning continued: "If you accidentally come in contact with an algal bloom, shower/wash as soon as possible to remove algal matter. Wash all affected clothing and equipment thoroughly."
