Huge interest in Tenant Incremental Purchase Scheme
Cllr Padraig Fallon asked Leitrim County Council, Housing Section, if the list of houses eligible for tenant purchase have been finalised and if the excluded list is finalised adding that there has been "huge interest in the Tenant Incremental Purchase Scheme."
He continued: "There is a list of excluded properties and I think that list needs to be reviewed" and noted that "many of these properties are housing individuals who are much younger and circumstances have changed and that's why I think we need to keep this under review."
In the official response from the Director of Services, Housing and Community, Corporate Services, Cultural and Emergency Services, Mary Quinn said that a housing authority shall not sell under a house for a number of reasons including that it has been specifically designed for occupation by one or more than one elderly person, has been provided to facilitate the transition from institutional care to community-based living of persons with an enduring physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual impairment or been specifically designed for occupation by travellers, where more than one such house or dwelling is provided on the land concerned, is a caravan, mobile home or a structure or a thing (whether on wheels or not) that is capable of being moved from one place to another (whether by towing, transport on a vehicle or trailer, or otherwise).
Cllr Fallon asked if the issue could be discussed at the next Housing SPC.
Ms Quinn said they would take a closer look at provisions and discuss it further at the SPC. "We need to manage our stock efficiently so we can meet current and future demand and have demand for one-bed and two-bed properties."
