‘Blue Thunder’, an immersive play written to be staged inside a parked 17-seater taxi minibus for an audience of 12 at a time, comes to Backstage Theatre Longford on October 13-14 at 7pm and 9pm.
The play is set in a small town in Ireland late at night, where the nightclub is closed, and the chipper is chaotic. And down a dark, quiet side street, exhausted taxi driver 60-year-old Brian is sitting in his minibus, finished work for the night. But then his two drunk sons call, demanding a lift home.
They arrive at Brian’s taxi full of booze, songs and stories. It soon becomes clear, though, that one of the lads plans to do something horrendous and unforgivable tonight. Can his father and brother stop him, or is he about to destroy his life?
Funny, frightening and deeply moving, Padraic Walsh’s unique, award-winning play examines what happens when the people who should be there for you have nothing left to give.
‘Blue Thunder’ is a Cathal Cleary Theatre and Kelly Phelan co-production.
Regrettably, the bus is not adapted for wheelchair access.
‘Blue Thunder’ has a 45-minute duration. As this is technically an outdoor performance, it is advised to dress for the weather.
Tickets for ‘Blue Thunder’ at Backstage Theatre Longford on Friday, 13, and Saturday, October 14, at 7 pm and 9pm are available on 0433347888 or backstage.ie.
