The Baronial Hall in the beautiful Lough Rynn Castle Hotel was the setting for the launch of the Gortletteragh Parish Calendar 2024, on Sunday, November 12.
This calendar is the second in a series of publications by the Parish Commemoration Committee, as it prepares to celebrate the bicentenary of the foundation of the St. Mary’s Parish Church in 2024 and, the 250th anniversary of the establishment of Gortletteragh as an independent parish in 2027.
Each month depicts people of the parish from new born babies to the oldest members of the community, including Brigid Annie Bohan, Drumgowna, who celebrated her 99th birthday in September.
The enthusiasm of the children in the Preschool and Primary School is evident in the photos while there are also lovely photos of children in the company of their grandparents and of the underage teams who had great success in the competitions they entered.
Various activities which took place during the year including the Spring Clean and the Noel McManus Run and Cycle are shown, as are some photos from the Autumn Club outing.
Lough Rynn Castle Hotel Estate and Gardens, who hosted the launch, also very generously sponsored the calendar, which was printed at DPS Print, Carrick-on-Shannon.
Fr. Quinn P.P. launched the calendar by presenting it to Molly Quinn, Drumshanbo South, who accepted it on behalf of the people of the parish.
Uniquely, there are four generations of the Quinn family living in Gortletteragh parish as Molly is a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and is a woman who in addition to rearing a large family with her late husband Paul, has always been involved in many aspects of parish life.
Fr. Quinn also presented the calendar to Mary Carroll and Cissie Bohan, both nonagenarians, living in Drumgowna.
Following the launch, guests were entertained by the talented Grier family; Margaret, Jacqueline and Francis and their families, Clodagh and Cathal O’Brien and Tara and Oisín Boyle.
Local photographer, Viliem Revtak and his wife Bibi were on hand to capture the special occasion.
Every effort was made to include as many people and as many aspects of parish life as possible and the committee is very grateful to all those who sent in photographs over the past twelve months and without whose support, the project would have been impossible.
The calendar, which is dedicated to Gortletteragh people at home and abroad, is on sale after weekend Masses, in Fox’s of Tooman, in Paul’s and Baxter’s Centra, Mohill.
