No Election Campaign Posters for Caitríona Bergin in Manorhamilton area

No Election Campaign Posters for Caitríona Bergin in Manorhamilton area

Caitríona Bergin, Fine Gael candidate in the Manorhamilton LEA.

First time Fine Gael election candidate Caitríona Bergin has taken the decision not to use election campaign posters. The impact on towns and villages with stray posters and cable ties is clear.

“I have never liked the way every inch of poles, lampposts and fences are covered in big plastic posters on the run up to elections, so I won’t be doing it!”

Because of this decision Caitríona is calling on the communities who don’t want posters to contact her directly at CBerginFG@gmail.com  She will arrange an information evening to meet groups, listen to their concerns and hear their suggestions on how she can amplify her campaign without posters and to prove that there better ways to doing things when we work together.

Caitríona will be at a real disadvantage in the Manorhamilton elections as all other candidates will be using posters. It is extremely risky not to use posters and will require Caitríona to use new and novel ways of getting known throughout the area.

“I used to run The Castle Café in Manorhamilton and have been involved in a lot of initiatives in the town, so I hope a few people know me already, but I’m a complete unknown further afield in places like Drumkeerin, Dromahair, Glencar, Kinlough, Tullaghan and many more, so I have my work cut out for me.”

The importance of the use of campaign posters is not lost on Caitríona, however she believes that there are better ways to achieving the same outcome. The use of designated billboards, either analogue or digital would reduce the clutter on poles and the potential hazards that posters can cause.

Town Banners could be erected to make people aware that there are elections upcoming and they can go to the designated billboard to see who is running. This would reduce the number of posters, cable ties and the impact on the environment in our beautiful towns and villages.

Our Tidy Towns groups work tirelessly all year round to improve and maintain the beauty of our towns, this is something that they have vocalised in the past and listening to the radio it is clear that there is change needed.

Just because things have always been done in a certain way does not make it right. It is time for change, new fresh thinking and action.

Caitríona Bergin needs your support in order to make changes for you. You can contact her on CBerginFG@gmail.com if you would like to support her or to join her campaign team.
