STEMtacular event takes place in Ballinamore next week

Just over one week to go until 500 students ascend on Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, to showcase all their scientific discoveries at the first STEMtacular event.

STEMtacular has been set up by local teachers Catherine O’Beirne and Louise Gallagher.

After research showed that STEM engagement in this region was one of the lowest across the county, the two teachers managed to collaborate with companies such as Scifest, Vistamed and Intel to engage local students in STEM

Junior infants to 6th class students from schools across Leitrim, Cavan, Roscommon, and Longford will take part with the chance of winning some glassware for their schools.

However, there’s lots more to the day as it promises to be a fun filled day, with an exciting show by Scientific Sue and stands from MET Eireann, the National Parks and Wildlife, the RSA and the Institute of Physics to interact with.

The event runs on Thursday 29th February in the Sports Complex in Ballinamore. It is open to the public from 10am - 12pm, entry fee €5.
