The Green Party in Leitrim urges all citizens to exercise their democratic right and vote Yes Yes in the upcoming referendums on March 8th.

Ireland has made significant strides in recent years towards becoming a kinder and more inclusive society, evidenced by historic votes on marriage equality and the 8th amendment.

Voting Yes Yes on March 8th will further propel us along this progressive path, reaffirming our commitment to equality and inclusivity, the party says.

Bláithín Gallagher, Chair of the North West Greens and Green Party candidate for the Manorhamilton Local Electoral area, articulates the significance of this momentous occasion.

“As Ireland progresses towards a more inclusive and compassionate society, voting Yes Yes in the upcoming referendums is a crucial step forward.

“These amendments represent our ambition to remove outdated sexist language and recognise the diverse forms of care within our homes.

“By casting a Yes vote, we affirm our dedication to cherishing all families equally and ensuring that every individual, regardless of gender, has the freedom to determine their place in society.”

Gallagher further elaborates on the transformative potential of these amendments.

“Our society's essence is enshrined in the Constitution and this referendum offers an opportunity to acknowledge the evolution of our modern values.

“A Yes Yes vote signifies eliminating outdated and discriminatory language from our Constitution. It's about embracing a more inclusive framework that fully acknowledges caregivers in our homes, regardless of the familial structure to which they belong.”

“In summary, voting yes to both of these amendments will reflect our collective desire to live in a society characterised by fairness and compassion.

“Amendment 1 acknowledges the diversity of family structures in Ireland today, reflecting the values of equality and inclusivity.

“It also emphasises the importance of care within the family, regardless of gender, and obligates the State to strive to support caregiving responsibilities.

“Amendment 2 will eliminate archaic references to a woman's place in the home, empowering individuals to make choices aligned with their aspirations and talents thereby removing sexist language from our constitution.

“By voting Yes Yes, we affirm our resolve to building a society where every individual is valued and supported, regardless of their family structure or gender.

“Let's continue this journey towards a more inclusive and compassionate Ireland by casting our ballots with Yes Yes votes on March 8th.

“As emphasised by the Referendum Commission, abstaining from voting relinquishes the power to shape the future of our society. Therefore, every eligible voter is urged to cast their ballot on March 8th. Remember, if you don't vote, others will make the decision for you,” Blaithín said.
