The late Colm O'Hagan

People in the Manorhamilton and North Leitrim area were saddened to learn of the death of Glenboy man Colm O'Hagan at Westmead Hospital, Sydney on Sunday, February 18 following a tragic accident.

Colm, whose late parents were Gerard and Betty, was highly respected in Australia, especially amongst the Irish community.
He lived in Perth for many years before he moved to Sydney. Colm, whose family were from Glenboy, was born in England but when he was 16 months old returned to Glenboy where he grew up.

He left Glenboy as a young adult to live and work in England. Later he moved to Australia where he became involved in the construction industry. Colm established his own company, Shamrock Stonewalls, which was highly regarded in Australia.
In a tribute to Colm the Irish National Association Sydney described him as a “proud Leitrim man.”

The Irish National Association Sydney also added “for anyone that knew Colm he was one of the finest men to ever come to Australia.

“He lived in Perth since the early 80s and had his own company there giving many young Irish their first start in Australia. He was an extremely hard-working man who went out of his way to help people, a fantastic character who loved all things Irish, especially his native home in Manorhamilton, North Leitrim.

“He moved to Sydney in 2016 and was a strong figure in the Irish community there and frequent visitor to the INA and Gaelic Club. Colm will be remembered by all who knew him (and) who will never forget his generosity, wit, good humour and his love for his Irish roots.”

Colm's Funeral Mass took place at Our Lady Queen on Peace Catholic Church, Greystanes, Sydney on Friday, February 23. His remains, accompanied by Colm's family, were returned to Perth on Wednesday morning, February 24.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary. Colm is survived by his daughters Bernadette and Liz, son-in-law, Derek, grandchildren Conor, Liam, Jessica and Niall, and great-grandchild Florence.

A Requiem Mass for Colm will take place later in St. Clare's Church, Manorhamilton.
