Residents of Lahard in Ballinamore are demanding action from Leitrim County Council to address the deteriorating state of the sports amenity within their estate.

Thirty-three residents have joined forces to highlight pressing concerns, including safety hazards due to torn-up surfaces and rusted basketball hoops lacking nets.

Supported by local election candidate Adam Ó Ceallaigh, residents emphasise the urgent need for repairs and enhancements to the facility. They propose adding tennis nets or soccer goals to diversify activities and cater to the community's interests.

This facility has been left to deteriorate for a number of years and as summer approaches, the timing couldn't be more crucial. With children eager to spend more time outdoors, Lahard Residents stress the importance of swift action to ensure a safe and functional sports amenity.

They call on the council to prioritise these upgrades and repairs, recognising the facility's pivotal role in promoting community well-being and cohesion.

Adam Ó Ceallaigh, who has taken a lead role in this campaign, has said, "The condition that this space has been allowed to fall into by the council is completely unacceptable. It is time that Leitrim County Council takes note of on-the-ground issues and acts to ensure this is not a recurring issue."
