Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns will visit Carrick-on-Shannon to meet with the local community and local elections Social Democrats candidate Lola Gonzalez-Farrell.

The visit is scheduled for Thursday, April 4, and will be open to the public at the Market Yard at 3.15pm.

The visit will allow them to directly connect with businesses and residents, listen to their perspectives, and discuss the issues that matter most to the community.

The visit underscores the Social Democrats' commitment to engaging with local communities and understanding the unique needs and concerns of residents in the Leitrim and Roscommon region.

Deputy Cairns has long been vocal about rural issues, particularly those impacting the region, including the strain on rural healthcare services and small business support for rural towns.

She has called for serious investment in GP training, public dental services, and a salaried GP model to alleviate the burden on local general practitioners.

Over the past several years, she has also called on the coalition to develop realistic support initiatives for young farmers that meet Ireland's sustainability goals.

Ms Gonzalez-Farrell added, "As a candidate for local council elections, I am particularly concerned with improved housing accessibility, better local transport options, support for community initiatives, and initiatives to bolster small businesses in rural towns like Carrick-on-Shannon and the wider Leitrim area.

"I look forward to sharing our local perspectives with Holly, which she can take back to the Social Democrats and the Dail to advocate for our region," she said.

Deputy Cairns and Ms Gonzalez-Farrell will walk through the town, ending at the Market Yard.
