Gary Prior, Fianna Fáil candidate in the Ballinamore LEA.
Name: Gary Prior
Address: Aughnasheelin, Co Leitrim
Occupation: Self Employed Plasterer
Party: Fianna Fáil
Why have you decided to run in the Local Elections?
I have been involved in many community groups & understand the challenges facing people - I would like to be a strong voice for our community. Growing up in a rural area like Aughnasheelin, I know what it takes to live, work, raise a family & run a business in Leitrim. I am very aware of the impact of the decline of rural areas. “A New Beginning” is my campaign slogan and this what I want for the Ballinamore LEA, a local councillor who lives in the area and cares about it. It is crucial to have a representative locally, one with a long term vision and one who will be here into the future.
Why should people vote for you?
Born and raised in Leitrim, I am keenly aware of the impact of the loss of services and population in rural areas, affecting everyone in one way or the other. The empty properties in our local towns show that we need to work hard to save the small towns and rural areas of Leitrim.
What do you think is lacking in your area and what will you be campaigning for?
I have many priorities that I intend to push as part of my campaign:
Better access to housing & supports, including council home loans and affordable housing
Improve roads, footpaths, bus stops, public lighting and services in both towns and rural areas
Revitalising our local economy, promoting employment and addressing rural issues
Improve health services locally by ensuring the right care is provided where it’s needed and when It’s needed
Be there to help with applications for grants
Always available to help and advise our local farmers
