A Garda barracks in a small Leitrim village will be transformed into a museum and working hub pending the approval of a planning application submitted to Leitrim County Council.
Keshcarrigan Development Association is seeking planning permission for the restoration, refurbishment and change of use of the former Keshcarrigan Garda Barracks and site for community resource use.
The building is a protected structure.
If the application is approved, works will include changes to the internal layout to suit the new use, the installation of a lift to the first floor and alterations to elevations.
A new accessible entrance will also be provided, as well as a new kitchen, toilets, and plant room within the existing single storey annexe.
Additionally, a new slated roof to the existing annexe will replace the current galvanised roof.
Alterations to the existing toilet facilities on the first floor will also be made, and new accessible external ramps to the front and rear of the building will be added as well.
The existing carport will be demolished, the garage will be refurbished as a bin store, and the site will be landscaped with the provision of car/bicycle parking.
A decision is expected by the end of August 2024.
