Almost €60,000 in funding has been provided for flooding relief work on the Owenbeg River in Manorhamilton, it has been confirmed.
The Minister with Responsibility for the OPW, Kieran O’Donnell TD has informed local Fine Gael TD, Frank Feighan of funding of €59,558 under the under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme for sections of the Owenbeg River in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim.
The work involves the maintenance of vegetation along circa. 700m section of the Owenbeg River.
The proposed works involve branch trimming, tree cutting and the removal of dead wood debris and fallen trees along a section of the Glenfarne river.
The repair of a trailing wall and channel where the two legs of the river merge at the rear of the Pre-School and Bee Park Resource Centre, Leitrim County Council have also circa. 6 no.150mm non-return Flap Valves to install on outfalls from street drainage Gullies at this location in the same channel.
“I am thrilled to see this allocation of funding to Manorhamilton and to deal with issues around the Glenfarne and Owenbeg river," Deputy Frank Feighan said.
“This area was the subject of flooding last spring so I am hopeful that this funding will deal with some of the ‘pinch points’ that need to be addressed.
“In conclusion I want to thank Minister O’Donnell for responding to my representations on this matter and to Leitrim Co Council officials locally who prepared the grant application”, Deputy Feighan said.
