Commercial vacancy rate rises in Leitrim
In June, Leitrim’s commercial vacancy rate stood at 17.5%, an increase of 0.7% compared to the same period a year before, according to a GeoDirectory Report.
Carrick-on-Shannon’s commercial vacancy rate was 16.9%.
The rate in Leitrim scored nearly 3% above the national average of 14.4% and puts the county in the top five countries with the highest commercial vacancy rates.
Commercial vacancies are buildings and spaces that are available for businesses to use but remain vacant.
The highest commercial vacancy rates were highest in the west of the country with Sligo at 20.5%, recording the highest proportion of vacant commercial units in the country, and Donegal (19.4%) and Galway (18.5%) also made the top five.
Leitrim’s vacancy rate had dropped last year but the county could not continue that trend for a second year.
Meath, at 9.8%, was the county with the lowest commercial vacancy rate in the country and the only county in the State with a vacancy rate below 10%.
