Leitrim County Council asked to support footpath cleaning in Ballinamore

Cllr Gary Prior asked Ballinamore M.D. engage with Ballinamore Tidy Towns to provide funding to power wash footpaths in the town.

There have been calls to improve footpath cleaning in Ballinamore, especially around the tourist office, to enhance the town's appeal to visitors.

At September’s Ballinamore municipal district meeting, Cllr Gary Prior asked the M.D. engage with Ballinamore Tidy Towns to provide funding to power wash the footpaths in Ballinamore Town.

“I feel our footpaths need a good power wash and clean down, there is especially a section from the Tourist office side up the street that needs to be addressed as there are many vacant properties along this route,” Cllr Prior explained.

“Ballinamore Town Team has recently established a new Tourism Committee.

“It's crucial that Leitrim County Council provides support to help the town attract visitors to its many attractions, including walking trails, the Shannon-Erne Waterway, Glenview Folk Museum, Island Theatre, angling lakes, and more.”

A reply from the Roads department said the District Office can meet with Ballinamore Tidy Towns to produce a plan for footpath cleaning in the town.

“I would like to welcome the response from our Local District engineer Darragh O Boyle who is willing to work with the Town Team and identify the most needed areas in order of preference to put a plan in place to begin a works schedule,” Cllr Prior concluded.
