Temporary closure of Leitrim road proposed through Christmas and into 2025

The road closure proposed by Leitrim Co Council will run from the start of November until the end of January to allow works by Uisce Éireann

A proposed temporary road closure in Leitrim could see a section of road closed for almost three months to allow works by Uisce Éireann.

Leitrim Co Council has published a Temporary Road Closure Proposal from Lurganboy to Shanvaus.

On its website it states: "In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994, and for the purpose of facilitating Uisce Éireann with water mains rehabilitation works on the Lurganboy to Shanvaus Scheme, notice is hereby given that Leitrim County Council proposes to make a decision to close the following public road: Starting from the junction with N16-2 at Pollboy Td (Shanvaus Cross) and finishing at the junction of LP02136-0, LP04134-0 & LP04135-0 at Ballyglass / Barrackpark / Twigspark Tds in Lurganboy".

The proposed closure dates are from November 6, 2024 to January 31, 2025.

Alternative routes will be through a diversion via the N16, L-4141-0, L-4137-0, L4134-0 (both directions), the council outlines.

"Please note that access to all houses will be accommodated where possible. Local access to L-21691-0 is available. Access for Emergency vehicles will be accommodated at all times. Access for businesses and local residents will be maintained but may be limited by agreement to certain times. All temporary Traffic Management will be removed and the roads will be re-opened for the Christmas holiday period," Leitrim Co Council confirmed.

"Any person aggrieved by the proposed decision to close the road described may lodge an objection with the Director of Services for Economic Development, Planning and Infrastructural Services, Leitrim County Council, Park Lane House, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim, on or before 16:00 on Monday 21st October 2024," the council adds.
