Daniel McLoughlin (Left) in his role with South Dublin County Council
Today, Catherine Martin, The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media announced five new appointments to Fáilte Ireland authority board, amongst them is a former CEO of Leitrim county Council, Daniel Mc Loughlin.
The role is aimed at supporting the long-term economic, social, cultural and environmental growth in Irish tourism.
Mr Mc Loughlin has worked for over 30 years in local government leadership positions including as Chief Executive in Leitrim, Westmeath and South Dublin County Councils.
In his time in Leitrim he helped deliver the Shannon riverside boardwalk, Leitrim leisure complex, and the Dock in Carrick on Shannon.
Daniel Mc Loughlin was the first manager Paddy O’Rourke, the current chairperson of Leitrim County Council worked under when he started in 2004.
He was an “affable” and “progressive” manager, says Cllr O’Rourke, according to him, Mr Mc Loughlin “was a real believer in modern services,” and worked hard to modernise Leitrim county council and focused on getting everything online in order to make the council work more efficiently.
O’Rourke welcomes Mr Mc Loughlin's appointment to a national role in Fáilte Ireland and highlights the importance of having someone like him, who understands the struggles that places like Leitrim face around infrastructure, housing, and regional development managing in a national role.
“Danny, being a west of Ireland man, I can’t imagine he won’t be involved in anything without having an eye on how it affects the west.”
Along with Mr Loughlin: Ms. Catherine Corbett, Dr. Donagh Davern, Dr. Anna M. Kelly, and Ms. Una Ryder have been appointed to the list of Fáilte Ireland authority members, which includes Joe Dolan, an ex-proprietor of the Bush Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon.
