Leitrim drivers earn least penalty points in the country in 2023, CSO

Leitrim drivers were issued the least amount of penalty points in the country in 2023, according to figures from the CSO.

The data suggests that Leitrim drivers are among the safest in the country with only 1000 drivers in the county receiving penalty points while driving, the closest county to that number was Longford which had 1,600 drivers earning penalty points in the same year.

The figures also mark a significant drop in the number of drivers in Leitrim receiving penalty points, with over 2000 less picking up points compared to 2022.

Motorists that accrue 12 penalty points in three years are automatically disqualified from driving for six months. Only 14 people in Leitrim saw more than 10 points on their licence in 2023.

The county with the highest number of drivers being issued points was in Dublin where over 37,000 people were recorded as getting points.
