Drivers have been urged to reduce speed and exercise care on roads across Leitrim as the local authority continues its clean-up operation.
"Our crews are out again this morning, continuing the cleanup on local and minor roads across the county following Friday's Storm Éowyn," the council outlined on Sunday.
"While many roads are now passable, motorists should reduce speed and exercise care on these roads, as road damage may have occurred, small debris may remain on the road or branches which we cannot reach without specialist equipment may exist. Please drive with care and attention," the local authority said.
"Where cables are entangled in fallen trees we will require assistance from either ESB or Eir crews," Leitrim Co Council added.
Hundreds of homes in Leitrim remain without power on Sunday evening as ESB crews work to restore electricity supply.
ESB Networks says it has restored supply to 490,000 homes, farms and businesses – 278,000 customers remain without supply, down from a peak of 768,000 on early Friday morning following the unprecedented impact of Storm Éowyn.
ESB Networks has published estimated restore times for most of its faults on www.PowerCheck.ie, which are now the most accurate indications based on fault site assessments of when customers can expect to have their power restored. Estimated Restoration Times will continue to be updated as the restoration continues to progress and weather conditions may impact on the restoration work.
"We anticipate that the vast majority of customers who lost power during Storm Éowyn will have supply restored by Friday night, 31 January. For the remaining customers, these will progressively have power restored over the course of the following week – this could be as many as 100,000 customers," an ESB spokesperson said.
"Crews are continuing to work late into the evening in difficult conditions due to Storm Herminia. This storm hasn’t caused significant damage to the network; however, it has made power restoration more challenging in places. Crews will commence work once again at first light tomorrow morning. Power restoration efforts will remain dynamic and weather conditions may impact on the restoration work," the spokesperson said.
