Revenue seize over €235,000 in cash in Leitrim and Longford

Revenue officers seized €235,286 in cash and a quantity of cigarettes from four premises in Leitrim and Longford last week. 

On Wednesday, 26/03, as part of an intelligence led operation, Revenue officers, supported by Detector Dog Toby, seized €235,286 in cash and 3,640 cigarettes following searches, under warrant, of four premises in Leitrim and Longford

The illicit cigarettes have an estimated retail value of over €3,284 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €2,600.

Revenue officers were granted detention orders on Thursday, 27/03, in respect of the cash seized by Judge Sandra Murphy at Sligo District Court and Judge Adrian Harris at Mullingar District Court.

Three men were questioned, and investigations are ongoing.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply of illegal tobacco products.
