Leitrim Development Company launches 'Letter Lingo' board game

Leitrim Development Company launches Letter Lingo, an innovative board game to help learners improve English and foster social connections across communities.

Leitrim Development Company, in partnership with various organizations and voluntary groups from across the county, unveiled Letter Lingo, an innovative new board game aimed at enhancing language learning, at an event earlier this week.

The launch took place at the Irish Wheelchair Association Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon. Developed as part of Leitrim Development Company’s Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP), Letter Lingo is designed to support learners of all ages and abilities in improving their English language skills in an enjoyable and interactive way.

The event featured a lively Q&A session with the game's creators, Deborah Shirlaw and Caillin Reynolds, who shared insights into the development of the game. Attendees also had the chance to try out Letter Lingo for themselves, enjoying the experience alongside delicious finger food provided by Stargrazing.ie.

RTE radio presenter Carol Coleman was in attendance, conducting interviews with the creators and participants. The conversation focused on how Letter Lingo can be utilized by anyone eager to enhance their English language abilities while fostering social connections across diverse communities.

Suitable for learners at all levels—from beginners to advanced speakers—the game is particularly beneficial for both non-native and native English speakers. Its versatility makes it an excellent resource for voluntary groups, schools, and organizations working with new arrivals to the community, according to organisers.

“We are excited to bring Letter Lingo to the community, and we believe it will be a valuable tool for anyone looking to improve their English language skills and build connections with others,” said Bernie Donoghue, Social Inclusion Manager at Leitrim Development Company.
