Cllr Justin Warnock
A Leitrim councillor has stated that he believes communication from An Garda Síochána should be improved in incidents involving local authority homes.
The comments were made to Ocean FM, where Cllr. Justin Warnock cited incidents of anti-social behaviour around houses owned by the local authority in the Kinlough area.
“There have been several incidents in the Kinlough area, and possibly other areas, where there is a local authority house—whether it's a housing association or even private rentals—where you have instances of anti-social or threatening behaviour. When Gardaí get involved, all I want to know is if they are obliged to contact the local authority,” he said.
He believes that the council should be informed when Gardaí are called to a local authority house to better address situations in these areas.
In some cases, incidents of anti-social behaviour have escalated, he says.
“I cannot stand by and see people living in fear. I am trying to bring this to a head and see if Gardaí, when called to a house regarding a disturbance or any incident, will contact the local authority,” he added.
