From the Leitrim's Glen’s Centre to the 3Arena

How Amble’s trio who went from local pub gigs to sharing the stage with Ed Sheeran and Hozier

From the Glen’s Centre to the 3Arena: Amble’s Oisín McCaffrey on sudden stardom

Midlands and west of Ireland folk trio Amble have announced their biggest Irish show to date — a headline performance at Dublin’s iconic 3Arena on December 4, 2025.

Sharing the news on Instagram, the band wrote: “3 men, 3 years, 3Arena! This has been a truly incredible journey so far. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in making this night a reality.”

It’s a huge milestone for a group who only came together in 2022. Originally a pub covers duo formed by Robbie Cunningham and Oisín McCaffrey to score free pints, Amble became serious when Ross McNerney — a mandolin and banjo player — joined after a Leitrim gig. At the time, McCaffrey was working as a data scientist at Pfizer, Cunningham was a primary school teacher in Terenure, and McNerney was teaching in a secondary school.

Within two years, they had all quit their day jobs and signed a record deal with Warner Records, releasing their debut album Reverie in May 2025, which went straight to No. 1 in Ireland and cracked the UK charts.

Their father’s phrase — “throw the trout out to catch the salmon” — has since become part of their story, even appearing on official band merch.

The 3Arena show follows a run of completely sold-out tours, including appearances at Dublin’s Trinity Summer Series, Cork’s Live at the Marquee, Galway’s Festival Big Top, Wexford’s Breakwater, the Millennium Forum in Derry, Belfast’s CHQ, and Limerick’s King John’s Castle. They’ll also play Electric Picnic on August 30, 2025, at Stradbally Hall.

From chasing free pints in small-town pubs to topping charts and selling out arenas, Amble’s rise is as unlikely as it is unstoppable.
