The Reading Room Bookshop will mark International Women’s Day 2026 with a special event at The Dock Arts Centre, celebrating the power, resilience and creativity of women through an evening titled A Miscellany of Women’s Voices.
Taking place on Saturday, March 7 at 7.30pm, the event will bring together a community of voices in a shared space of connection and empowerment. The evening is dedicated to amplifying women’s experiences, sharing knowledge, and fostering visibility, with organisers inviting the public to join in honouring the achievements of women and building a more supportive world for future generations.
Organised by The Reading Room Bookshop, the gathering forms part of the global celebration of International Women’s Day, a movement that recognises the social, economic, cultural and political accomplishments of women while also serving as a call to action for accelerating gender equality.
International Women’s Day has been observed for well over a century. The first gathering in 1911 was supported by more than one million people, and today the day belongs to all groups, everywhere — powered by collective effort and solidarity across communities worldwide.
The organisers say the evening will reflect that shared spirit. In keeping with the theme of empowerment, they reference writer G.D. Anderson’s words: “Feminism isn’t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.”
The event will run for 90 minutes and admission is €15. It promises to be a meaningful and uplifting celebration of women’s voices at The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon, inviting the community to gather, reflect and celebrate together.
