Residents in Leitrim will have the opportunity to check in on their heart health later this month when the Irish Heart Foundation’s Mobile Health Unit visits Carrigallen offering free heart health checks.
The unit will be stationed outside The Corn Mill Theatre on Main Street on Thursday, March 26, from 10am to 3.45pm.
Members of the public are invited to drop in and have their blood pressure and pulse checked, as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting heart health and encouraging the early detection of hypertension (high blood pressure) — one of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease.
The Irish Heart Foundation’s Mobile Health Unit carries out up to 10,000 free blood pressure checks each year in communities across Ireland, helping to identify people who may be living with high blood pressure without realising it.
During the checks, expert nurses will also provide advice on lifestyle changes and heart health, as well as information on identifying conditions such as atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that can lead to serious complications if left untreated.
The free service is open to all members of the public and no appointment is necessary. Residents are encouraged to call in throughout the day while the mobile unit is in Carrigallen.
